Abraham Baldwin
Abraham Baldwin was born on November 22, 1754. His parents were Lucy Dudley and Michael Baldwin. Abraham graduated from Yale in 1772, and he was a tutor there for the next 7 years. He moved to Augusta in 1784, where he studied Law. Governor Lyman Hall told him to make a secondary and higher education standard. Baldwin's University of Georgia opened in 1801 to students. In 1787, only two of the four Georgia Delegates signed the Constitution , He and William Few. While serving as U.S. Senator form Georgia, he died at the age of 53 on March 4th, 1807. Baldwin County, in Middle Georgia is named in his honor.
