Button Gwinnett
Button Gwinnett was one of the three signers of the Declaration of Independence from the State of Georgia. He was born in April of 1735 in Gloucestershire, England. His parents were Anne and the Reverend Samuel Gwinnett. In 1757, he married Ann Bourne. They had three children, Amelia, Ann, and Elizabeth Ann. However, Gwinnett's wounds proved the most fatal. He died on May 19, 1777. His grave is located in Savannah's Colonial Park Cemetery. The exact location of his grave is unknown. In 1818, when a new county was established, it was named after Mr. Button Gwinnett, Gwinnett County.
